HotelTonight – Wisconsin Dells Hotels
I had been to Wisconsin Dells more than once in my life, as my wife's family is from the Midwest and they always looked forward to spending a few days there. It was always a lot of fun, and there were things there that the whole family could enjoy. I travel through Wisconsin a lot for work, and every time I pass by Wisconsin Dells as I move between cities I wonder what it's like to actually live there as opposed to visiting there as a tourist. I never had the opportunity to find the answer to that question for innumerable reasons. That all changed on my last trip to the Land of Cheese. I was driving between cities when I found out that my meetings for later that day were canceled. I was near Wisconsin Dells and remembered that thought that had been entering my mind. I decided to use the 24 hours I suddenly had on hand to explore this city from this different perspective. The Riverwalk
One of the things I always noticed about Wisconsin Dells was that there was a very nice looking, tree-lined river that ran through town. I wanted to see the Wisconsin River in a more up-close manner, so I headed that way when I got to town. I didn't know it until I got there, but there is a Riverwalk that's made of asphalt that runs along the river. I walked for quite some time, taking different photos of the river, the greenery that surrounded it and the ducks and birds that call the river home. It was a nice way to experience some local nature.
The Cheese
One of the things that happened while I was walking along the river was that I built up a pretty good hunger. I wasn't ready for dinner yet, but I felt like a snack. A lady I spoke to while walking told me about a cheese shop that the locals all love. I made my way over there when I was done and sure enough, there was an entire shop of cheeses. They were mostly from local producers, and the prices were extraordinarily reasonable. I grabbed some for gifts, some for myself and had quite a few samples of delicious Wisconsin cheese.
The Cuisine
Now that I had finally held off until dinner, I was ready to eat. I wanted a steak. I heard about a steakhouse that wasn't overrun with tourists while I was at the cheese store, and I gave it a try. It was a great recommendation. The steak was not only enormous, but it was perfectly tender, perfectly rare and perfectly seasoned. I could've used a butter knife to cut it. The baked potato was also very tasty, served with sour cream and chives with a zing to them.
